Easter is fast approaching. To stay topical, I am offering a free MP3 download of The United States Coast Guard Band performing the John Philip Sousa march Easter Morning on the White House Lawn. Sousa wrote over 120 marches. Some are better than others, but all were good material for band concerts.


This march was likely written as a tribute to the annual White House Easter Egg event. Sousa's U.S. Marine Band played for that event a few times. During one of his later tours with his civilian band he offered these program notes for the march: "With the children rolling eggs, dancing and romping, as scene of animation persist itself: the elders, from the President to the merest passerby look on the scene with joy and pleasure."
